My Job Shadow was done in Visalia CA with lawyer Michael Cross. The experience was nothing like I expected it to be. The vibe was very serious but I enjoyed every minute of it. The atmosphere made me feel beyond my age because I was present in all his court cases the day of the job shadow. I had the chance to see first hand what I'll be doing in 10 years. Hearing all the cases and seeing real live clients on the stand made the moment so surreal. Not only was I able to be present during the event of a Iive court case but I had the chance to see how the whole court itself works. I had the opportunity to see first hand many other lawyers who were present, the judge, prosecutor, police officers and the clients themselves. At one point they brought out an inmate in which had asked to be released on OR and was declined the offer due to his "violent history" the inmate responded by looking at the prosecutor and laughing. At that moment I realized the seriousness of working in the field of law. Prosecutors, as well as lawyers have to deal with cases and people like this all the time, it's an everyday thing. Hearing all the legal terms and just being in the moment of a court case made me so excited for what the future has in store for me. After everything, I left Michael Cross with a smile on my face and with a mindset made up that I do want to become a lawyer in the future. While I was there I even met another lawyer who I will be job shadowing as well pretty soon. I learned many things about being a lawyer and now I have an idea of what I should expect for my near future.
